Lost Mountain

.

Groveland Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of paintings by Minneapolis artist, Kit Wilson. A full-time artist, Wilson began exhibiting at Groveland Gallery in 2002. Lost Mountain will consist of 20 paintings of Lake Superior’s North Shore. Wilson contemplates Superior’s shifting characteristics from a single vantage point, documenting the lake’s surface and changes in light and season. This sweeping grandeur belies the 5 x 7” format of the artwork; the small scale invites a close view of the fine detail and micro brushwork Wilson is known for. Wilson writes of her work:

“My paintings are of the views that I inhabit. They are of places I know intimately or am new to and exploring. I have been observing the view at Lost Mountain for the last three years. The interaction of sky, water and land is ever changing and awe inspiring. When I’m there, standing in front of that huge view, I feel small in the universe. And not small as insignificant, instead I feel tiny and part of something grand and expansive. It is inspiring to be part of something universal. So, I paint this grand view and the surrounding area in small, intimate works. Giant view in a little tiny space.”

The artist will be present at the opening reception on Saturday, October 18 from 2-5 pm. Kit Wilson will give an artist talk at Groveland Gallery on Saturday, November 15, starting at 3 pm. The exhibition runs concurrently with The Alsea River by Joyce Lyon. Both shows continue through November 29, 2025.
