Herman "Hank" Rowan Artist and
Co-Founder Groveland Gallery
Herman “Hank” Rowan was a Minneapolis arts icon and adored University of Minnesota Professor of Art whose students have become some of the most prominent artists and art educators in Minnesota and beyond.
Hank Rowan was co-founder of Groveland Gallery in 1971. The Groveland Gallery’s FOREVER YOUNG: Group Exhibition showcases several of Hank Rowan’s works from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. His paintings evolved from figures and darker colors in the 50’s to bold colors in the 60’s to pastoral landscapes with softer colors and shapes in his 70’s work. His joy, exuberance, and love of sharing art with our community has bolstered the Groveland Gallery community for over 50 years.
Hank Rowan was a popular University of Minnesota Professor of Art fifty years ago to many of our Groveland Artist family. The Rowan family has generously provided his many works to Groveland Gallery which are available to view and purchase for the first time.
Hank Rowan’s paintings are in the collections of the MIA, Walker Art Center and Weissman Museum, and in private collections world wide.
