Founded in 1973, Groveland Gallery features outstanding Minnesota and regional art with a special focus on contemporary representational paintings, drawings and prints. We sell only original art and have a personal relationship with the artists we represent. Work by our artists is included in private, corporate, and museum collections throughout the United States. Groveland Gallery is housed within the iconic 1894 Frank B. Long House in the Lowry Neighborhood at the top of the hill adjacent to the Walker Art Center. Frank B. Long and his partner, Frederick Kees, ran a prominent Minneapolis architectural firm in the 1890s. Long & Kees are also known for designing the Lumber Exchange Building and the Hennepin County Courthouse, two iconic Minneapolis buildings. Constructed of Ortonville granite from Southwestern Minnesota and built in the then-popular style of Richardsonian Romanesque, the Long House carries a striking resemblance to the courthouse, which was built at the same time. The Groveland Gallery building is listed in the National Historic Register.
Groveland Gallery is open to the public Tues-Sat 12-5pm, and is available for neighborhood group events. The gallery hosts many group exhibitions featuring house artists and guest artists as well as smaller two artist exhibitions and changes shows every six to seven weeks. Artist talks and demonstrations are frequently offered to complement exhibitions. Opening receptions are held on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons and are always free and open to the public.
Groveland Gallery is home to the popular PLEIN AIR SMACKDOWN event; utilizing the gorgeous neighborhood, sculpture garden, Loring park area as artists paint out of doors "in the wild" and then gather and exhibit their work alongside a bar-b-que event on the elegant front porch.
In addition to exhibitions, Groveland Gallery maintains a large inventory of artwork ranging from small drawings to large-scale paintings, viewable on this website and upon request during Gallery hours.
