Brock Larson

I think the primary purpose that I aim to achieve through painting is to highlight and promote the beauty (and profound) truths that we experience in nature as honestly as I’m able. As an artist, I find excitement and a subconscious meaning within the visual world that we experience… In which I hope to offer through my art. My artistic purpose is to enhance the viewers perception of our surroundings, as well as an appreciation for the gift that is life.

BROCK LARSON (b. 1991) first began drawing at a very early age under the guidance of his father, Jeffrey T. Larson as well as his grandfather, Marvin Espe. He started his approach to academic practice in high school with Charles Bargue plates, master copies, and cast drawings before moving to Minneapolis to pursue a formal education at the Atelier Program of Fine Art, where he studied full time for five years alongside attending workshops. He then began teaching evening classes prior to returning to his hometown area of Duluth MN, to help his father establish a similar studio apprenticeship program, Great Lakes Academy of Fine Art. Together, they spent two years researching and designing the curriculum before renovating an old catholic church into an ideal studio setting for students in 2016. Currently, the school offers a full-time program and has expanded to part-time classes, youth programs and workshops.
Brocks work has been included in multiple exhibitions and gallery shows throughout the US, including NYC, Cape Cod, Charleston, St. Louis, Minneapolis/ St. Paul, Grand Marais MN, Duluth MN, Door County WI, and Los Angeles.
In recent years, Brock has competed in multiple pleinair events in the Midwest. He consecutively took first place in Pleinair Grand Marais in 2023 and 2024, and was chosen to be juror for the 2025 competition.
