Revisit/Release
Revisit/Release, an exhibit of new paintings by Dani Roach, opens June 1 at Groveland Gallery. Dani Roach began her professional art career in 1983 as a member of WARM Gallery. She has exhibited regionally at ARC Gallery in Chicago, the Benedicta Arts Center in St. Joseph, Minnesota and the University of Minnesota at Morris. Roach has been the recipient of artist’s residency fellowships at the Millay Colony for the Arts in Austerlitz, New York and Ragdale Foundation in Lake Forest, Illinois. Roach has been represented by Groveland Gallery since 1984.
Of this new body of work, Roach explains, “For this show I felt free to charge ahead with fresh painting ideas more readily than I had in the past. Maybe I wanted to paint a particular shade of green or was drawn to a bright red rail. Maybe I wanted to paint some sheep. Yes, go for it! Paint more skies? Sure – even a sweeping vista I have seen before, but this time at dusk. Try a smaller format? Still ‘yes.’”
Roach explores the intersection between representational imagery and abstract space. Using minimalist compositions and a soft color palette, the artist creates a sense of memory and mystery from seemingly mundane details, resulting in a collection of paintings that is contemporary and evocative.
