Shorelines

.

Shorelines, a SPOTLIGHT exhibition of new paintings by Anne DeCoster, opens September 7 at Groveland Gallery. A well-known Minnesota artist and St. Paul native, DeCoster has exhibited extensively throughout the Midwest for over 40 years. Her paintings are part of numerous private, public, and corporate collections. DeCoster taught at Hamline University and was a guest artist at several other Minnesota universities. She currently divides her time between her studio in the Midway neighborhood of St. Paul and her studio-home overlooking the St. Croix River.

Throughout her many years of making art, DeCoster has drawn inspiration from the natural word. Some of her new paintings focus on the coasts of Rhode Island while others include images from her home on the St. Croix and landscapes which resonate with her. DeCoster captures the energy and spirit of bodies of water through her loose, painterly style and rich color palette.

DeCoster describes her painting process as one where, “…the paint in some way joins with the subject of the painting. How it is used becomes integral to the spirit and expression of the work.”

The artist will be present at the opening reception Saturday, September 7 from 2-5 pm. The opening reception and exhibition runs concurrently with Nicollet Island: A Visual History by James Conaway. Both shows continue through October 19, 2019.
